McGowan is a HOF umpire (D'1954) and a very interesting person. Offered is a very detailed TLS to Detroit Tigers owner Walter Briggs. Dated March 21, 1941, this letter goes into wonderful detail about a shortstop McGowan is pitching to the Tigers. The content mentions how McGowan discovered HOFer Goose Goslin. Signed at the bottom of the second page, it is a pleasing if imperfect signatures. McGowan letters are quite scarce, especially with good content. JSA LOA (full).
